Comfort Cafe Card Makeover

Comfort Cafe MakeoverWelcome to my Saturday Card Makeover blog post, where I re-create a project I found using only Stampin' Up! products.  I'm running a bit late today in getting my post up.  This past week was my first week back at school and I've had some challenges getting back into the routine.

I have a very simple card to share with you today.  I've seen several cards that have a diagonal focal point on them (I think there was a card challenge blog that featured a similar sketch lately) and have loved the way they look.  When I ran across the original card in a Paper Crafts publication, I decided to use it for my Saturday Card Makeover.

Here's the original card (designed by Stephanie Halinski):

Diagonal Original

Here's a summary of the products I used to create my card:

Crumb Cake card stock for the card base; Comfort Cafe designer paper for the diagonal strips; Delightful Dozen stamp for sentiment, stamped with Soft Suede ink.

This is certainly a quick and easy idea for a card, and one that I will defintely use again in the future.

Thanks for stopping…have fun Stampin' it up!

Masked Pumpkin Makeover

Masked Pumpkin
Welcome to my Saturday Card Makeover!!  With September (and fall) just around the corner, I decided to try this Masked Pumpkin makeover.  Again, I found the original in a Paper Crafts magazine (October 2008).  The designer was Lisa Dorsey and here's the original:

Pumpkin Original

Remember, the goal is to recreate the card using ONLY Stampin' Up! supplies.  Here's a list of the products I used:

Tangerine Tango card stock for the card base; Very Vanilla card stock; Howlstooth and Scaringbone Designer Paper; Tangerine Tango ink for sentiment and sponging; Pumpkin Pie card stock and ink for pumpkin; Old Olive card stock and ink for the stem and leaves; Chocolate Chip ink for sponging pumpkin edges; Teeny Tiny Wishes for the greeting; Day of Gratitude stamp set for the pumpkin design; Big Shot; Houndstooth embossing folder, Finishing Touches edgelit; 2 3/8" Circle Punch for the pumpkin

I'll be back on Thursday with a tutorial for the masking technique I used to create the pumpkin.

Have fun stampin' it up!

Happy Birthday Card Makeover

It's Saturday, and that means it's time for another Saturday Card Makeover, and this time it's a birthday card.

Create A Cupcake

I used the Scallop Square Bigz Clear die and Big Shot to create the card base.  The Create A Cupcake stamp set was perfect for the job – bottom stamped in Crumb Cake and top stamped in Daffodil Delight (to look like buttercream frosting).  To get the lighter effect, I stamped off both images before stamping on the Whisper White and then took the narrow tip of the marker and lightly sketched in the outline of the shape.

I didn't have any polka dot ribbon (like the original project) so I decided to go with solid Real Red ribbon and add the polka dots using Summer Smooch designer paper (and cupcake sprinkles).  The sentiment from the A Word for You stamp set refers to a "cherry on top", so of course I also had to add the cherry!

Here's the original card, which appears in Paper Crafts magazine (sorry, I don't know the date) and was designed by Joslyn Nielson.

If any of you who are following my Saturday Makeovers have tried some of your own, I'd love to see them.  Simply leave me a comment with a link to your creation.  I'll visit and comment.

Quick Card ReMake

Welcome to my Saturday Card Makeover, where I share a card idea I've found elsewhere and remake it using Stampin' Up! only products.  Today's card goes together quickly and is a great way to use up scraps of designer paper.

Designer Paper Scraps card

I used scraps from the Comfort Cafe designer series paper.  I'm not a real fan of the Summer Starfruit color, but wanted to give it a chance.  Using the Comfort Cafe  paper was a great way to do so.  I simply punched six 1 1/4" squares and attached them to the Summer Starfruit card stock, which was then mounted on Early Esspresso card stock.  Card base is Crumb Cake.  Sentiment is from the Just Believe stamp set and punched with the Modern Label punch.  I added the "brads" by using my Early Esspresso marker to make a dot on each end of the punched piece.  Then I added the sparkle with Dazzling Details.  If you don't already know, when you use the non-color Dazzling Details, it "reacts" with the ink to take on that color.

What's that?  You want to see the orginal?  Okay…here it is:

DSC06135

(Papercrafts Magazine; Sept/Oct 2010, Genevieve Cassady designer)

I kept the card base the same color, and used the dark brown as a matte.  However, I added the extra layer of Summer Starfruit as an accent.  I felt their sentiment piece looked very much like our Modern Label Punch, so that's the choice I made.

I hope that you enjoy these Saturday Card Makeovers and they help give you inspiration to "use what you have" to create cards that you like.  I'd love it if you'd leave a comment if these Saturday posts are helpful.

Saturday Card Makeover

Comfort Cafe Card Makeover

Welcome to my Saturday Card Makeover, where I take a card idea and remake it using only Stampin' Up! products.  The purpose for these Saturday Card Makeovers is to show you how you can use WHAT YOU HAVE in recreating cards that you love.

I found today's card idea in the Sept/Oct 2010 issue of PaperCrafts magzine.  Here's the original created by Lisa Henke:

Ledger Card for Makeover

I followed the layout exactly, just using products that I had on hand.  Here are the elements I used:

Colors:  Crumb Cake (base), Pool Party, Soft Suede, Comfort Cafe Designer Paper, Midnight Muse.

Embellishments: Chevron Embossing Folder, Midnight Muse 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon

Letters were cut with the Big Shot using the Typeset Alphabet die.  I "shadowed" the Pool Party letters with Midnight Muse so they would stand out and not get lost on the designer paper.

Thanks for stopping today.  If you create any Card Makeovers I'd love to see them.  Just add a link to your page in my comments section.

Masculine Get Well Card

I liked the mascuine feel of today's Saturday Card Makeover.  It is sometimes difficult to find appropriate cards to send to men.   Here's my card makeover for today:

Get Well Butterfly Makeover

What I find interesting about this card is that it uses a butterfly, but still looks masculine.  I think that's because of the colors used:  Soft Suede and So Saffron.

Here's the card that was the inspiration for my card:

Get Well Butterfly Original

I used the Houndstooth Embossing Folder to add background texture, my substitute for the original card's stamped background.  For the image background piece, I used the Labels Collection Framelits and cut two of the edges off.  Sentiment is from the Perfectly Penned stamp set and the butterfly is from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set (both stamped in Basic Black).  I added some paper pierced holes along the two sides and at the top points for interest.

Hope you found some inspiration in today's post.  I'd love it if you would leave me a comment and let me know if you are enjoying these weekly card makeovers.

Have fun stampin' it up!

Fluttering Butterfly Card Makeover

Good Morning, and welcome to my Saturday Card Makeover post.  I saw an absolutely delightful butterfly card that I knew would be perfect for Stampin' Up's! new Elegant Butterfly punch.  Here is the card I created:

Fluttering Butterfly Makeover

This card was a quick one to put together as well.  Colors used were all from the Brights family (except the Gumball Green, but I think if it were a regular Stampin' Up! color it would be in that family as well!):  Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Rich Razzleberry, Tempting Turquoise, Melon Mambo.

Here's the original card that I saw in a PaperCrafts magazine (Vanessa Menhorn, designer):

Fluttering Butterfly Original

She punched her butterflies from polka dot paper, and I would have done the same except I don't yet have the new In-Color Designer Paper pack.

I hope that you have been enjoying these Saturday Card Makeover projects that I've been sharing.  My purpose in doing these is to show that you don't have to buy all the "stuff" in order to re-create card ideas that you like.  With just a little thought and creativity, you can use what you have to come up with a similar project.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit today.  Have fun stampin' it up!

Another Fun Makeover Flower

Flower card remake

Today's Saturday Makeover Card was a fun one for me to create.  I had originally seen a flower like this in Simply Cards magazine.  Here's what it looked like:

Flower Original

I recreated it using Stampin' Up's! Color Collection Designer Paper…and every piece used was scrap.  I free-handed the stem, cutting from Wild Wasabi paper.  Leaves were punched with Bird Builder punch.  Designer paper circles were punched with 1 1/4" circle punch and then mounted on color card stock punched with 1 3/8" circle punch.  Colors used were:  So Saffron, Pretty in Pink, Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise.  The sentiment is from the Just Believe stamp set and punched with the Small Oval punch.

Sunshine! for the Saturday Card Makeover

Sunshine card remake

It certainly has been one hot and sunny week here!  Guess that's what summertime is all about.  Today's card reminds me of summertime too.

For the past few weeks on Saturdays I've been featuring card makeovers.  These are card ideas that I find in magazines and elsewhere that I remake using only Stampin' Up! supplies.  Today's card is no exception to that rule.  Here's the original card, designed by Maren Benedict and published in Paper Crafts magazine.

Sun original

Here are the details on my card.  Marina Mist  card base.  Grass and flowers are made with Summer Smooches designer paper.  I simply punched the circles from one the the pieces of designer paper to create the flowers.  Stems were made using Lucky Limeade Baker's Twine.  The Daffodil Delight butterfly is made with the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.  Sentiment can be found in the Occasions Alphabet stamp set and is stamped with Lucky Limeade. I created the sun using Brights Collection (Daffodil Delight) Designer Paper.  The button for the sun's circle was cut with Buttons #5 Sizzlit die.  After cutting it, I applied some Crystal Effects to create shine.  Sun's bow is White Baker's Twine.

Thanks for stopping today and letting me share my card makeover with you!  With a little creativity, it's possible to create and copy cards you see with materials you have on hand!

Have fun stampin' it up!

A fun flower for a card makeover

Hard to believe another week has passed!  Thanks for stopping by for my Saturday Card Makeover.

Here's the original flower that I found in the April/May 2006 Paper Crafts magazine.

Original Flower

I loved that the flowers can be made using scraps of card stock cut into strips.  Here's my attempt at recreating them.  (I'll apologize in advance for the photo quality.  I couldn't quite get it adjusted the way I wanted.  It looks much better in real life!!)

Flower Makeover

It's hard to tell, but the colors are Pumpkin Pie and Gumball Green.  I chose to create a 3" x 3" card.  The scallop embellishment was made with the Perfect Pennants Bigz L die cut and Big Shot.  The flower itself was made using strips of Pumpkin Pie paper from the Brights Color Collection DSP Stack.  Center was made using BoHo Blossom punch, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight card stock, as well as a Brights Designer Button and Baker's Twine.

If you'd like to see how I laid the strips out, here's a photo:

How to Flower

Strips are 1/4" by 2" and you need 6 of them.  Attach together as shown and then curl each end.  I used the end of my paper-piercing tool for this task, but toothpicks would work as well.  If you wanted bigger flower blossoms, you would just make longer and wider strips.

Hope you were inspired by today's card makeover.  Thanks for taking the time to stop by!

Have fun stampin' it up!

Inspired Butterfly Makeover

Inspired Butterfly

Today's makeover idea was inspired by a card in an old Paper Crafts magazine.  The designer was Nina Brackett.

Here's the original:

Inspired Butterfly original

I didn't want to create a card, because of the buttons used on the project.(I don't used actual buttons very often in case I want to mail the card.)  I wanted to use actual buttons so, I used the idea to create a butterfly project to display in my studio.

The butterfly was created using the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die.  I cut out two butterflies from two different papers from the Comfort Cafe designer paper set, then cut off the right-hand side of the Cajun Craze butterfly wing top.  Next, I flipped that piece so that the back paper (wrong side) was showing to determine where to cut it on the left side (because it's a mirror image).  Attach the two Cajun Craze pieces onto the second full butterfly piece.  I used Baker's Twine to tie through the buttons and create the butterfly antennae then attached with glue dots.

The back piece is Pool Party card stock stamped with the swirl from Everything Eleanor stamp set using Midnight Muse ink.  The INSPIRE sentiment is found in the Loving Thoughts stamp set and is stamped in Cajun Craze ink on Pool Party card stock and mounted on a scrap piece of Cajun Craze designer paper.

Very honestly, this was a makeover project that I struggled to assemble. I'm happy with the result and will love displaying it, but wonder if a Whisper White background piece, instead of Pool Party card stock would have been a better choice.  What do you think?

Ribbons and Buttons makeover

Buttons and Ribbon Card

I'm back with another Saturday Card Makeover.  I love the challenge of taking a card idea I find somewhere else and re-creating it using only Stampin' Up! products.

Today's card is a great way to use up ribbon scraps.  I originally found this idea in an old issue of Paper Crafts magazine (original creator Maile Belles) and  I just so happened to have some ribbon scraps crying out to me to be used so I couldn't resist.

Buttons Ribbon Original

The card base is Basic Black.  After snipping off the ribbon ends at an angle, I used Tombow Multi-Purpose glue to attach the non-angled ribbon end to the card base, making sure the white would cover the non-angled ribbon end.  My Whisper White card stock is 3 inches by 5 ⅜ inches.  Sentiment is from Just Believe stamp set.  The long ribbon showcasing the three buttons is ⅛ inch Basic Black taffeta.  I created the buttons using the Sweet Buttons embosslit and attached them to the card with glue dots.  Don't forget to use a black marker to make it look like the buttons are sewn on.

Hope that you enjoyed today's Saturday Card Makover.  Stop back next Saturday for another installment.

Saturday Card Makeover

Do you sometimes see cards that you like in magazines or on blogs, but think that you can't create them because you don't have all the supplies listed?  I'm going to start featuring card makeovers every Saturday in order to share with you how you can create those same cards using the supplies that you have on hand.

When I saw this card in an old issue of Paper Crafts magazine (Anabelle O'Malley is the creator), I immediately thought of the leaf branch in the Day of Gratitude stamp set.

Leaf Branch Original

This image worked perfectly to recreate the original card.  Here's my card:

Leaf Branches

I used Gumball Green ink, paper and ribbon for a monochromatic card.  The designer paper strip on the bottom of the card is from the Be of Good Cheer Designer Series paper pack (a Christmas theme) and worked perfectly!  Happy Birthday sentiment comes from the Create A Cupcake stamp set.

So next time you see a card idea you love, don't think you have to buy all the product needed to recreate it.  Look around your craft area and see what you have that would work just as well.

I'll be back next Saturday with another card makeover using Stampin' Up! products.

Have fun stampin' it up!
