Send Me Soaring Background Technique

Send me soaring background

The three Send Me Soaring cards I've just shared on my blog were all cards that I created for the Stampin' Up! Leadership contest.  Of the three cards I've shared, this is by far my FAVORITE!!

It certainly looks more complicated to make than it really is.  The most time consuming part is applying the pearls.  You will need 15 stamped kite images that have been trimmed.  Simply begin in the upper left corner of the card stock and attach the images.  Make sure the image is straight.  Attach the next image, ensuring that the points of the two images touch.  Continue across the top row, then move to the second row.  Now you will need to make sure that the points also line up with the row above.  Continue on until all kite images are attached.

I waited to trim my cardstock to size until all the kite images were attached.  Attach to the piece of card base and then attach the pearls.

If you decide to try this technique, I'd LOVE it if you'd leave a comment with a link to your project.  I'd like to see what you come up with and I will visit your blog if you leave a link with your comment!

Playing with Kites

Playing with kites

Today's card is another using the Send Me Soaring stamp set in an unconventional way.  The main color on this card is Riding Hood Red.

To make the side embellishments, I simply stamped and cut out two kite images, then attached them to a piece of Whisper White card stock, and trimmed around them.  I think that they look like books that are open to be read, and just might have to design a card using these around a reading theme.

The flower center is made by cutting two kites in half and attaching one on top of the other.  The two pieces peeking from behind the sentiment are also kite pieces.  I used the kite tail stamp to embellish the sentiment label.

Send me Soaring Fun

Kite star

Send Me Soaring  is the name of one of the stamp sets in the Occasions Mini Catalog.  The set theme is kites, but anyone who knows me knows that I like to think out of the box on some stamp sets.  When I first saw this set, I immediately thought SHAPES.

I've used one of the kite images to create a star.  My color choice for the card was Baja Breeze.  I stamped the images, then mounted them onto a scrap piece of Baja Breeze card stock in the form of a star. I matted this on a piece of Whisper White card stock.

The bottom border is also made from a scrap strip of Whisper White card stock, onto which I repeatedly stamped the kite shape.  The scrap strip was narrower than the image, so it just looks like a pattern.

I embellished the card using Dazzling Details.

I hope that this inspires you to be creative.  Thanks for stopping!

Happy Birthday SUOC Style

Today's challenge at SUO Challenges is a birthday card.  This was a very timely challenge for me, as it is my son's birthday tomorrow.  (He shares his special day with George Washington!).  Here's the card I created for him, and for today's challenge.

Pheasant Card

I first colored the pheasant from the Autumn Days stamp set using the Black Magic technique (stamping the image in white craft ink and then coloring with color pencils).  After this was completed, I chose the colors for the card.  The new Island Indigo went perfectly  with the color in the pheasant's head and I paired it with Riding Hood Red.  The ribbon is the Twill Tape which I colored using Riding Hood Red Re-inker.  I used the Houndstooth embossing folder to add some texture to the background.

Now it's your turn to create and share a birthday card with the team at SUO Challenges.  Click here to see what the team has come up with.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!

I've so enjoyed sharing heart themed cards with you these past few days.  I hope you have been inspired.  This last card is one that I created…I call it a leftover card.

What's a leftover card?  Well, it's a card I create around a leftover scrap that I just can't bear to toss out.  In this case, the leftover was the heart shape left after I used the cut out heart piece.

Thanks for stopping.

Hearts on a string

Clothesline Hearts

Here's one last Valentine card from Stampin' Up's! Leadership event.  I love the way that the person who made this card used the new Adorning Accents Embossing folder to create a clothes line from which to hang the hearts!!  So clever.

The hearts are again created with the Fashionable Hearts embosslit die.  I think that the red patterned ones are punched from Twitterpated designer paper.

In case you might be wondering about the sentiment, that is found in a sentiment stamp set on page 171 of the Idea Book and Catalog. The set is called Occasions Alphabet and contains wonderful sentiments for just about any occasion or reason.

Sprinkled Expressions Hearts

Sprinkled Hearts

Isn't this a whimsical card?  It's another of the wonderful cards on display at Leadership. (I'm sorry I can't give credit to the card creators, just know they weren't made by me.)

The heart colors are the new in-colors:  Island Indigo, Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade and Pool Party and the textured hearts were created with the Fashionable Hearts embosslit die.

The sentiment and stamped heart image in the center were made with the FREE Sale-a-bration stamp set called Sprinkled Expressions. The ONLY way to get that stamp set is by purchasing $50 worth of Stampin' Up! product from me.  Visit my online store to make your purchase.

Triple Hearts

Triple hearts

Here's another card that was on display on the swap boards at Stampin' Up's! Leadership event.  I absolutely LOVE the simplicity of this card!!

This image is from the P.S. I Love You stamp set, but you could just as easily use the heart image from the Take It To Heart stamp set as well.  The red matte hearts were created using the Scalloped Heart of Hearts embosslit die and the Big Shot.

This would be a great card to create for any "heart" event (wedding, anniversary, etc), not just Valentine's day.

Tumbling Candy Conversations

Tumbling Hearts

I'm back to sharing Valentine cards today.  I haven't shared many of the cards that I saw in San Antonio for Leadership.  For the next few days, I'm going to share photos of cards that I saw on display there.

This first card uses the Candy Conversations stamp, along with sentiment from the Sweet Cake stamp set.  I just love how this demonstrator has the hearts tumbling from the container!!  And, Stampin' Up's! small heart punch makes these hearts a breeze to cut out!!

Striped Candy Conversation Hearts

Striped Heart

Can you stand one more card using the Candy Conversations stamp?  Here's one more card that I really enjoyed making.  I cut the large heart out using my Big Shot and the Hearts Collection Framelit die.  Next, I stamped the image across the heart.  I used the stripes textured embossing folder to add texture, and then sponged a bit of Cherry Cobbler ink on the edges.  The red dots on the little white hearts were made using the Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details.

SUOC – Valentine Colors x 2

DSC04819

After my last two days of Valentine posts, I have to admit that this card is just a wee bit non-traditional.  The two colors I chose to use for the SUO Challenge were Not Quite Navy and Cajun Craze, and I based them on the color in the Well Worn Designer Paper.  It's actually a card I will be sending my son, and it fits him perfectly.

I didn't set out to make this into a Valentine.  The quarter-circle shapes were scraps I had sitting in my work area, leftover from when my niece and I made these baby shower invitations (they were the leg cut-outs).  I picked them up and was wondering how I could creatively use them up.  I just started "playing" and this was the result.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.  Make sure to check out SUO Challenges and upload your two color Valentine.

Candy Conversation Hearts 2

Embossed Candy

Here's another traditional Valentine card made with the Candy Conversations stamp.  This time I heat embossed the image with Cherry Cobbler embossing powder.  I actually sewed the Baker's twine through the punched hearts.  The white hearts on the bottom are made using the Fashionable Hearts embosslit die.

Just a short post for your inspiration today.  Have fun stampin' it up!

Candy Converation Hearts

Candy Hearts

Here's a more traditional Valentine card that I made using the Candy Conversations A la Carte stamp in the 2012 Occasions Mini.  I also used the Adorning Accents Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from the same catalog to add some texture to the card.  It's hard to see, but I also used some Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details on the red hearts.

Lots-n-Lots of hearts!

Too many hearts

How about this…a second post today.  Actually, I had good intentions of posting every day this week, but my schedule didn't allow that to happen.  So, I'm trying to make up time.

This is another card that I just had fun "playing" with.  The Designer Paper is Twitterpated and the stamped heart is from the Take it to Heart stamp set.  All the little hearts were made with the Fashionable Hearts Embosslit die.

Valentine #2

Triple Hearts

Here's a quick and easy Valentine card made with an image from Take it to Heart, a stamp set in the current Occasions Mini Catalog.  I tried several new things on this card.

First of all, I heat embossed the large heart images with Cherry Cobbler Embossing Powder, and then ran them through the Big Shot AFTER embossing, using the square lattice embossing folder.  It's hard to see in the photo, but it makes them look distressed/cracked.

You will also notice the double dots on the Cherry Cobbler card stock.  I purposefully created this look by running the card stock through the Big Shot TWICE, flipping the piece over before I ran it through a second time.

The third thing that I tried was running the ribbon diagonally, instead of horizontal or vertical (as I always seem to do!).

The small heart on the top right hand corner was created by simply punching it out of an extra large heart image.

Here's my challenge for you today.  Try creating a card by experimenting with something that you wouldn't normally use.  It could be a technique, or simply doing something in a different way (like I did with my ribbon).  I'd love to see what you come up with, so leave me a link in the comment section so I can come visit your blog and leave a comment.

Thanks for stopping by today, and have fun stampin it up!
