SUOC Favorite Holiday Colors

SUOC Fav Colors

I'm quite a traditionalist, so I'm choosing red and green for my holiday colors.  HOWEVER, the Holly Berry Bouquet Designer Paper uses Wild Wasabi for the green…and I LOVE it with the Real Red.  And, there's NO STAMPING on this card either.

For this challenge, I went with a simple quilt theme and punched the Designer Paper using the one inch punch.  After adhering the squares to my base paper, I ran it through the Big Shot using the Snow Burst textured embossing folder.  I sponged the edges with Real Red ink to give it the worn look.

My poinsettia flower was made with the Five Petal punch, crumpling the card stock after punching and then separating the layers of card stock to give it a soft feel.

Make sure to create a card using YOUR favorite holiday colors, and then post it at SUO Challenges.  I'm looking forward to seeing what you create!

Best Wishes in Chalks

Going through some old photos of cards that I haven't yet posted.  This one was from a chalk techniques class in August.

I love the soft look of chalks and I should take the time to use them more often!

Cleaning up the table scraps card

I was cleaning up my card making area over the weekend and found some paper scraps laying around begging to be used on a card…

Riding Hood Leaves

(Riding Hood Red card stock; Spice Cake Designer Paper, Autumn Days stamp set)

This one went together quickly…under 10 minutes.  What kind of scraps do you have laying around waiting to be used in a card?

Card Making Technique

I was constructing a card that needed several punched oval images.  I wanted to stamp and emboss the images first but wanted to make sure I'd be able to get each oval image punched out completely from the strip of card stock. (If you've ever stamped an image before punching and then ended up with a partially square rounded image after punching, you'll know what I was trying to prevent!)  Here's the technique I came up with to ensure success:

First I cut a SCRAP 11" strip of lightweight paper wide enough to accomodate my punch shape.  I folded it in half and then in half again, so there were four sections.  I then took my punch and punched out the shape (through all four layers at once).

Here's what it will look like when punching.

Punch technique

This resulted in a piece that looks like this.

Punch result

Next, I used this as my guide for stamping the image onto my card stock.  I simply placed my guide strip just above the area I was stamping and used it to approximate placement of the stamped image across the width of the paper.

Hope that you find this tip useful in your card making adventures.  Thanks for stopping today and have fun stampin it up!

Golden Birthday Greetings

Golden Wheat

My apologies for being such an absent blogger.  I was in a craft fair a little over a week ago, and the days since have just been crazy busy.  I do like to try to schedule posts ahead, and didn't even have time to gather my thoughts and do that.

I'd like to take the time and let those who visit on a regular basis know how much I appreciate their stopping by.  My hope is that you gain inspiration when you visit.

Today's card was made with the Always Thankful stamp set.  I really like the images in that set and this was a card we made in one of my monthly event classes.  The card base is Island Indigo, which goes fabulously with More Mustard and So Saffron.  The Designer Paper is Spice Cake and I sponged the edges of the stamped image and sentiment to get the shaded look.

Thanks for stopping.  Have fun stampin' it up!

SUOC Thankful

Suoc thankful

The theme this time at SUO Challenges is thankfulness.  Here's my card for the challenge.  I love the sentiment from the Day of Gratitude stamp set.  I do try to find things to be thankful for each and every day, even when things go a different way than I had planned.  Having a grateful heart causes me to realize how blessed I really am.  The other stamped image is from the Always Thankful stamp set found in the 2011 Holiday Mini Catalog.

Now it's your turn.  Let's see what you can come up with for the challenge.

Gift Tags classes this week

Nov Tags 2011

My November classes meet this week and we'll be making these ten gift tags to use in our gift giving this holiday season.  I LOVE making my own gift tags and am excited to be sharing these with my local customers!

Maybe these will give you some ideas for creating your own gift tags.

Triple Treat Flower – Day Two

Triple Treat Birthday

Here's my second card using the Triple Treat Flower stamp.  For this card, I stamped the image on Very Vanilla card stock and colored only the center.  The Very Vanilla shows through around the outside, and makes for a brighter image.  Colors used were Peach Parfait, Pear Pizzazz and So Saffron.

Triple Treat Flower – Day One

Triple Treat flower

I'm at a craft fair this weekend, so am setting up my posts in advance.  I've got two cards to share with you using the Triple Treat Flower stamp (an ala carte choice in the Idea Book and Catalog).  Today's card was my first attempt at using this stamp.  It is similar in style to the Day of Gratitude stamp set, maybe that's why I was drawn to the stamp.

The colors in my photo appear brighter than they are in real life.  I stamped the image in Staz-On ink and then colored in with marker.  Colors used were More Mustard, Riding Hood Red, Cajun Craze, Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive.  I think the card has a nice fall feel to it.

Thanks for stopping by to visit.  I'll be back tomorrow with a second card to share using this same stamp set.  Until then…

Have fun stampin' it up!

Using the Leftovers

Pink Think of You Frame

Sometimes I just can't throw leftovers away!!  I gues I'm from the old school of thought that says "But I might be able to use that someday!"  Today's card started with the leftover frame from the Top Note die cut.  Pink is my favorite color and I didn't want to throw this one away!  This is a very simple card, and goes together quickly, but I really like the result.

(Stamp sets used: Thoughts and Prayers; Sincere Salutations)

How about you…do you have a hard time parting with leftovers too?  If so, I challenge you to create a card using some of the leftovers you have on hand.  Let me know if you take me up on this challenge.  Leave a comment below, including a link to your card.  I'd love to visit, see your creations and leave a comment for you as well.

Minnie Mouse in Melon Mambo

I'm excited to share another customer card with you today.  Dawn's granddaughter recently had a birthday, and here's the card she created to give her.

Dawn's card
Isn't this one of the cutest cards you've ever seen!!  Melon Mambo is the perfect color for this card…and the polka dots really add personality!!

And…she also made the inside special…

I'm sure her granddaughter just loved this card.  Thanks Dawn for letting me share this!

Thinking of you for SUOC

Thinking of You leaves

"Thinking of You" cards are my favorite type cards to have on hand.  They're so versitile and can be used for so many reasons…encouragment, get well, sympathy, hello, and many more.  This time on SUO Challenges we were asked to create a "Thinking of You" card.  I went with a fall theme and used the Autumn Splendor stamp set.  Colors used were Cherry Cobbler, So Saffron and Tangerine Tango.  Sentiment is from Sincere Salutations.

Stop on over to the SUO Challenge blog and upload your Thinking of You card creation.  We'd love to have you join us!
