Anniversary Wishes for SUO Challenge

Today's SUO Challenge is to create an anniversary card.  This was the perfect challenge for me because today is my parent's 53rd wedding anniversary.  This is the card that I created to help them celebrate the occasion.  (Happy Annivesary Mom and Dad!) 

I haven't used the Movers and Shapers Big Shot die (114506) very much and wanted to use it for this card.  Details:  Card base is Crumb Cake.  I used the  Top Note Die (113463) to cut a piece of Chocolate Chip card stock and also a piece of Paisley Petals designer paper.  The Chocolate Chip top note was cut in half the long way, the designer paper cut in half the short way which gives a larger border.  I used Chocolate Chip satin ribbon as embellishment.  The stamped sentiment is from the set A Word For You (W 117032, C 120528).  I used Chocolate Chip ink on Crumb Cake card stock (sponged the edges too) and used a Chocolate Chip matte.

The above photo shows how I created the initial monogram.  I used the piece that is cut from the Movers and Shapers die.  The M is from the Lovely Letters Alphabet (115030) and is stamped in Chocolate Chip ink.  I added an adhesive pearl on the swirl.  Notice that I sponged both the edges of the inital piece and the opening created in the card front, as well as the card edges.  I also rounded the corners of the card.

I'd like to encourage those of you who visit my blog for inspiration to pay attention to the little details in your card creations.  This card would look okay without the sponging.  However, sponging adds depth to the card and raises it to the next level. The result is worth the extra time it takes!

A Quick Note

Oh my goodness!!  It certainly has been awhile since i have posted here to my blog!!  I'm just wanting you to know I'm still around!!  For one entire week I was really out of comission with a summer cold (a real bummer!!) and didn't have the energy to do much of anything.  I've also been busy with other life commitments.  My plan is to post on a semi-regular basis this summer, hopefully at least 3-4 days per week.  Make sure to stop back tomorrow to see my card for the SUO Challenge!

SUO Challenge 21 - Wedding Bells

This time, the challenge for SUO Challenges is to create a wedding card.  In my last two posts, I shared with you a wedding card that I had made for weddings we actually attended.  Today's card is a bit "out of the box" for a wedding, but think that it turned out mightly fine!!

Although I love cards that have lots of detail, my natural tendancy is to go toward clean and simple cards that are easy to make.  Today's card is one of these.  I started by using part of a piece of designer paper from the Paisley Petals designer paper pack.  The desgins in this new pack are simply gorgeous and I wanted to showcase one of them.  After I cut the paper to size to fit on a Crumb Cake card base, I sponged the edges with Crumb Cake ink and rounded three of the four corners.  The sentiment is stamped in Soft Suede ink on Very Vanilla card stock, then punched out with the oval punch.  To tone down the brightness of the Very Vanilla card stock I lightly sponged over the entire piece with Crumb Cake ink.  The Crumb Cake card stock matte was hand cut and the entire piece was attached with Stampin' Dimensionals.  The ribbon and bow is Crumb Cake seam binding.

Wedding Card Part Two

If you visited my blog yesterday, you saw a wedding card.  Today I'm sharing the inside of that wedding card so you can see how I chose to give our monetary gift.  I don't like money flopping about loose in a card, so I added a small strip of Basic Black card stock, adhering only the two ends, so that the money could be easily slipped underneath the strip and held in place.  Try this next time you have a monetary gift you'd like to enclose in a card.

June Wedding Bells!

Wedding cards are always fun for me to create! We have two weddings this weekend, and this is the card both couples will be receiving.  The Bride and Groom hearts are not an original idea with me.  I've seen several variations and mine is a combo of them, plus some of my own originality.  The paper I used for the "Bride and Groom" is retired SU paper.  Border punch is non Stampin' Up!  Card base is Basic Black with a piece of Brushed Silver card stock attached on top.  I used the Heart Punch and the Scalloped Heart of Hearts embosslit.  Sentiment is from the Level 3 Hostess set Occasional Quotes.  The groom's bow tie is 1/8" Basic Black Taffeta Ribbon attached with a glue dot and the bride's necklace is made using Adhesive Pearls.

Just Believe Thanks!

Here's ONE MORE card using the Just Believe stamp set.  It's a simple layout that would work well with many stamp images.  Even though the card is an easy one, it includes many details that make it a great card.  The Chocolate Chip card stock strip is punched with the Scallop Trim border punch on each side.  Victoria lace trim is tied around the border piece, adding a lovely touch. The sentiment is stamped onto a punched 1 3/4" x 7/8" oval and is sponged on the edges. A Chocolate Chip punched scallop oval is the matte piece. The stamped image was stamped with Chocolate Chip ink and then stamped off several times to produce the lighter images.  The image piece is double matted with solid color card stock.

Here's a tip for card making and designing...pay attention to the little details.  One of the details that I use on most every card I create is the sponging  technique.  I love the depth and shading that sponging adds to cards. Let me know what your favorite card detail is.
